Darnell Payne requested his medical records in August to send to his insurer. However, he was stunned to find the records belonged to a different patient when his insurer labeled his claim fraudulent.
Unclear about where his medical records were, Mr. Payne contacted Advocate Christ Medical Center. He said the hospital was surprised and in disbelief that he had gotten a copy of a different patient’s health records.
“Protecting patient privacy is one of our top priorities. We are taking this seriously and conducting a thorough review,” a spokesperson at Advocate Christ Medical Center told CBS Chicago.
Mr. Payne says he has been unable to return the other patient’s records to Advocate Christ Medical Center because the hospital is not accepting them. Additionally, he told CBS Chicago that he has not received copies of his own records.
