Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health acquired Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio, on Sept. 1, making it the health system’s fifth hospital.
Fairfield Medical Center will now be known as Adena Fairfield Medical Center as part of the acquisition, according to an Adena Health news release.
Adena Fairfield Medical Center comprises a hospital, two emergency departments and multiple clinics and care offices, according to its website.
The two parties signed a nonbinding letter of intent June 1 to explore a formal partnership after Columbus-based OhioHealth’s planned acquisition of Fairfield fell through. Since then, both Fairfield Medical and Adena Health’s boards, leadership teams, providers and employees have worked to reach the goal of acquisition, the release said.
Under the acquisition, Adena Fairfield Medical Center will continue to provide patient care while the two parties work to support a smooth transition for employees and patients.
“Our responsibility has always been to ensure Fairfield Medical Center is positioned to serve our communities well into the future,” John Janoso Jr., Fairfield Medical Center president and CEO, said in the release. “I believe joining Adena Health provides that strong path forward, and I am confident in all that is ahead.”
