A Houston Methodist employee was attacked the morning of May 11 at a Texas Medical Center parking garage and was released from the hospital the same day, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.
Three things to know:
1. A Houston Police Department spokesperson told Becker’s the department received a report of a stabbing around 6:45 a.m. They could not confirm whether the female victim was a hospital employee, but said the report was made for 6519 Fannin St., which is the address for one of the hospital’s parking garages.
2. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and police confirmed the stabbing was nonfatal, the department spokesperson said. Houston Methodist said May 11 the employee was released from the hospital after receiving treatment at a nearby emergency department and that the police department is actively searching for the suspect.
3. The incident is under police investigation, a health system spokesperson said in a May 11 statement shared with Becker’s. Houston Methodist temporarily locked down part of the campus to ensure staff, patient and visitor safety and is maintaining heightened security awareness across the campus.
“At this time, there is no indication of an active or imminent threat to our campus,” the spokesperson said. “The safety and well-being of our employees, patients and visitors remains our top priority.”
