The director of Michigan’s Medicaid program, Steve Fitton, says in an interview that Michigan is “concerned about the eligibility system just being able to process the number of new applicants” in a timely fashion.
However, he says he believes his state has the capacity to handle new beneficiaries.
Perhaps the most arduous task is putting dual eligibles — people who qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare — into managed care programs. Michigan officials want to move dual-eligible beneficiaries into managed care if PPACA is upheld and other states will likely do the same.
