Home health company owners charged in $8.7M fraud scheme

The Houston-based owners of a home health company have been indicted on charges related to an alleged $8.7 million healthcare fraud scheme.

Husband and wife Rommel Zamora, 59, and Caroline Zamora, 63, allegedly paid kickbacks to Medicare patients to sign up for home health services at Parkway Healthcare Services, according to a March 24 news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas. The couple is also accused of paying illegal kickbacks to doctors to certify and refer patients for home health services who did not qualify.

The alleged scheme occurred between Feb. 7, 2014, and Nov. 9, 2018, according to the release. Of the $8.7 million Parkway billed to Medicare, $6.7 million was paid out.
