Health Net Ordered to Pay $1.3M in Fines and Restitution

Health Net of the Northeast has been ordered by the state of Connecticut to pay $1.3 million in fines and restitution for improperly denying or underpaying claims, according to a report in the Hartford Courant.

Health Net will pay $496,000 in fines to the state, $750,066 in restitution to policy holders and $60,000 to the Insurance Department Education Account, a fund for consumer education.

Connecticut’s Department of Insurance alleges Health Net failed to properly reimburse healthcare providers for out-of-network claims, failed to pay claims in a timely manner and failed to cover some benefits mandated by the state.
