The proposed tax would levy a 1.6 percent “fee” on the total revenue of all hospitals in the state in an attempt to help close a $608 million deficit in the state’s Medicaid fund.
In response, lawmakers in the state, including Speaker of the House David Ralston, have said that they will work to find areas to cut the state budget in order to avoid a tax on hospitals, according to the report.
Democrats in the state have come out against the tax, which would cost hospitals millions of dollars, and have called it “unjust,” according to the report.
