Geisinger and Lewistown originally signed a non-binding letter of intent this past December, with a goal of finalizing a definitive merger agreement by March 5.
Both organizations said they needed extra time to analyze the information and ensure they were in compliance with state and federal antitrust laws, according to the report. Pending approval by both boards and the Pennsylvania attorney general, the merger will be official July 1 after Geisinger and Lewistown sign the definitive merger agreement June 30.
