Former Michigan hospital account manager sentenced after embezzling $2M

Cindy Norgen, 61, a former account manager at North Ottawa Community Health System, which joined Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health in October 2022, was given a minimum sentence of seven years in prison for embezzling more than $2 million from the health system, MLive reported Oct. 25.

Ms. Norgen was accused of taking the money between January 2020 and December 2022. Hospital officials first discovered the irregularities in December 2022 through internal financial controls, and police opened an investigation. 

Earlier, Ms. Norgen pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement of more than $100,000 and using a computer to commit a crime. For her embezzlement charges, Ms. Norgen was sentenced to a minimum of 4 years and two months; for using a computer to commit a crime, she was sentenced to a minimum of 2 years and 10 months. The sentences run consecutively. 

Along with her prison sentence, Ms. Norgen has been ordered to pay $2,706,329.43 in restitution.
