Mr. Aquino pled guilty in January to bribing former New York State Senator Carl Kruger. Mr. Aquino led the hospital to make a $60,000 payment to a company in which Mr. Kruger had a financial interest in 2008. Mr. Aquino claims he made the payment with the understanding that Mr. Kruger would keep Parkway open in return, as it was scheduled to close in the summer of 2008.
Mr. Kruger was sentenced to seven years in prison last week for soliciting Mr. Aquino and others for bribes, according to the news report.
