Om Kapoor, MD, was charged with misdemeanor battery and indecent exposure on Dec. 20, according to a report from News4Jax. The physician was practicing at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville at the time of the alleged incident.

The charges against Dr. Kapoor stem from allegations made by a male patient who’d been seeing the physician for about a year. The patient claims that on Dec. 14, Dr. Kapoor masturbated into a napkin while examining the patient’s buttocks and genitals.

“We take seriously any allegations, especially charges of this nature, filed against physicians on the medical staffs of Baptist Health hospitals,” said Baptist Health in a statement to Becker’s. “We are cooperating with the police investigation regarding the allegations. Dr. Kapoor is on a leave of absence pending investigation.”

Dr. Kapoor denies the allegations and was released from jail after making bond, according to First Coast News.
