Skaggs issued a request for proposal in January. Two potential partners were considered — CoxHealth and Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals. In June, Skaggs signed a letter of intent with CoxHealth.

Under the deal, Skaggs will maintain its hospital board while becoming a subsidiary of CoxHealth, but as the parent company, CoxHealth will assume the responsibilities of Skaggs’ trustees. In addition, each organization will have representation on the other’s board, which allows them to act as one entity for contracting, recruitment and growth.

The affiliation, if approved, will allow Skaggs to update its physical facility, focus on recruiting additional physicians and provide security to its 1,100 employees.
