A former physician from Columbus, Ohio was sentenced to two years in prison for a $1.5 million Medicaid fraud scheme.
What happened?
- Robert Florea, 49, was sentenced after being convicted in October of one count of Medicaid fraud, according to a June 24 news release from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. His clinic, Buckeye Health and Research, was found guilty of the same charge.
- He claimed reimbursement for more than 5,100 pieces of medical equipment over a three-year span, but records showed that he bought only 460 of the items.
- Mr. Florea and his clinic must also pay $1.5 million in restitution.
- Mr. Florea permanently surrendered his medical license at the beginning of the year. The clinic is no longer in operation.
