UPMC was first contacted by the DOJ in 2012 regarding the whistle-blower lawsuit, and at that time, the DOJ provided UPMC with a redacted copy of the complaint, which was filed under seal. In 2012, the DOJ also requested records pertaining to 40 surgical procedures that were performed at UPMC’s facilities between January 2008 and 2010
This year, the DOJ made a second request for records, and UPMC has been providing the requested documentation, according to the report.
The DOJ hasn’t decided whether it will intervene in the False Claims Act lawsuit.
