After the new rate goes into effect of April 16, providers must pay a $731 fee every three years to prescribe or dispense controlled substances. The DEA is authorized under the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act to charge a “reasonable” fee for the registration and control of the manufacture, distribution, dispensing, import and export of controlled substances and listed chemicals, according to the rule.
