Couple indicted in alleged $15M overbilling scheme

A Minnesota couple was indicted for an alleged $15 million scheme to defraud Medicare, Medicaid and other insurers by overbilling for neurofeedback therapy. 

Four things to know:

1. Gabriel Luthor, 39, and Elizabeth Brown, 42, are accused of intentionally devising and carrying out the scheme for medical services provided through Golden Victory Medical, which the couple founded in 2018, according to an April 10 Justice Department news release. 

2. The couple is accused of fraudulently overbilling insurers for neurofeedback services by using numerous inapplicable medical codes. 

3. They allegedly submitted hundreds of thousands of false claims to insurers, many of which the insurers paid, resulting in an estimated loss of $15 million, according to the release. 

4. They were each charged with six counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering.
