This free, searchable database includes the results of federal inspections of acute-care hospitals and critical access hospitals due to complaints. Previously this information was available only by filing Freedom of Information Act requests to CMS, according to the news release. With the launch of this website, CMS provides transparency into hospitals’ quality.
The website does not include information on routine hospital inspections or inspections of psychiatric hospitals or long-term care hospitals.
AHCJ is also urging The Joint Commission to publicly release results from its hospital inspections. As a private agency, The Joint Commission is not subject to FOIA, according to the release.
