Around 3 a.m. July 30, New Haven police received a notification that six rounds were fired near the hospital, CBS affiliate WFSB reported. Shortly after, hospital security notified police that a person had been shot in the parking lot outside of its pediatric entrance.
By the time police arrived, hospital staff had brought the girl to the pediatric emergency room, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fox affiliate WTIC.
Police determined the shooting was not a deliberate attack on the hospital or its personnel and that no one else at the hospital was involved in the incident, WFSB reported. Police found four fired cartridge casings and surveillance video showed a silver Kia SUV and black Hyundai Elantra in the area at the time of the incident; they later identified the stolen vehicles unoccupied nearby.
A hospital spokesperson told Becker’s police were handling the investigation.
