Sara Pedro began working at Duke in August 2016 and received an exemption from receiving vaccines on religious grounds. In December 2016, she told hospital administrators she was unable to assist with abortions, or administer vaccines or contraceptives for religious reasons. She was then placed on unpaid leave.
Ms. Pedro’s lawyers allege this is religious discrimination. They claim she has suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and as a result, has been unable to work since that time.
