The medical center filed a lawsuit against Miami-based law firm Greenberg Trauig seeking to recover extra money Greeberg allegedly collected from BMC.

The hospital said it owed Greenberg $2.2 million in attorney fees after the firm represented BMC and one its surgeons in a bankruptcy case in 2011.

An attorney for the hospital said BMC paid the fees using its own funds in 2012 but claims the law firm proceeded to collect money from other BMC ventures, resulting in a $500,000 overpayment.

Greenberg Traurig motioned to dismiss the case, arguing there is no proof the funds came from BrownMedicalCenter. The attorney representing the hospital said the funds could be traced back to the medical center in seven separate occasions.

The case is being tried in the U.S. District Court of for the Southern District of Texas.
