BCBS of Rhode Island will not cover Aduhelm

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, the state’s largest insurer, will not be covering Biogen’s Alzheimer’s drug, Aduhelm.

The insurer is waiting to hear more information from CMS before moving to cover the drug, according to WPRI

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island is the latest Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate to announce it won’t be covering Aduhelm.

“After review by a local, independent panel of healthcare providers to assess the health and safety of [Aduhelm], Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has designated [Aduhelm] non-covered based on an evaluation of safety and clinical efficacy for non-Medicare members,” a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island spokesperson told WPRI.
