Ballad Health protester could face felony charges for killing grass

Ballad Health Chief Security Officer Ken Harr filed a complaint with police against a woman who has led protests at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., for six months, the Kingsport Times-News reports.

Mr. Harr alleged the protester, Tara "Dani" Cook, has caused more than $1,300 in damages to hospital property throughout the monthslong sit-in. The Johnson City, Tenn.-based health system wants to press criminal charges for vandalism, according to the report.

Protesters set up tarps and tents that the health system says have killed the grass. They also dug a ditch alongside the tents, likely for drainage, according to the report. They are protesting the merger that created Ballad Health, of Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System.

Police are investigating the complaint, according to the report.
