ASA gave solicited feedback on the proposed rule, titled “Medicare and Medicaid Programs: Part II — Regulatory Provisions to Promote Program Efficiency, Transparency and Burden Reduction.” The organization said, “Substituting nurses for doctors would significantly decrease patient safety and quality of care,” according to the report.
However, ASA also expressed concern about a provision that would not require a medical staff member to be on the hospital’s governing body.
