AHA, AMA Increase Lobbying Spending in 3Q

Both the American Hospital Association and American Medical Association boosted their lobbying efforts in the third quarter of 2011 from the second quarter of this year, according to a report from the Center for Responsive Politics.

The AHA and its subsidiary state associations have spent $14.6 million on lobbying through the first three quarters of 2011 and is on pace to surpass last year’s total of $19.5 million.

The AMA spent $7.3 million on lobbying in the third quarter alone, an increase of 65 percent from the second quarter of this year, according to the report. Through the first three quarters of 2011, the AMA and its subsidiary state associations have spent a total of $16.2 million.
