AHA is at odds with the NLRB decision to expedite union elections, fearing that hospital workers voting on union issues will lack the time and resources to make an informed decision given the new NLRB ruling. The NLRB decision (pdf) allows union representation elections to occur as little as 10 days after an election petition and sets restrictions on the information that can be shared at pre-election hearings.
“The hardworking men and women in our nation’s hospitals are entitled to choose whether or not to organize, a position long supported by AHA and ASHHRA,” AHA writes in the letter. “However, we believe that employees should have every opportunity to make that decision with full knowledge from both sides.”
