Mr. McNeal worked as an IT specialist for Atlanta Perinatal Associates before leaving the company to work for a competing practice. In April 2010, he hacked Atlanta Perinatal’s computers in order to steal patient names, phone numbers and addresses. He then used the information to launch a direct-mail marketing campaign for his new employer, according to the report.
There is no evidence that McNeal downloaded or misused specific patient medical information.
