Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Health Care System has successfully launched Epic across its entire organization, completing a roughly $160 million EHR transition.

Sarasota Memorial said in an Oct. 4 Facebook post that the systemwide launch included First Physicians Group offices, outpatient healthcare centers, urgent care sites and hospitals.

The health system said more than 11,000 employees across its departments and locations were involved in preparing for the transition.

The launch marks the culmination of an Epic implementation that began in June 2025. Sarasota Memorial opted for an enterprise-wide “big bang” rollout rather than transitioning locations in phases, CIO Pam Ramhofer previously told Becker’s.

“You’re on one single platform, and at this point, that’s the recommendation from Epic,” Ms. Ramhofer said at the time. “Also, it would probably be a lot more problematic to bring half the organization up and leave half of it behind. That’s how tightly wound it is.”

Sarasota Memorial told Beckers in October 2025 that it planned to spend about $160 million on Epic over five years. The project was expected to allow the health system to consolidate three patient portals into one and retire nearly a quarter of its roughly 380 applications.

Epic represents the largest IT project of Ms. Ramhofer’s four decades at Sarasota Memorial, she previously told Becker’s.
