3 more Iowa CNAs arrested for alleged sex with patients

Law enforcement officials on March 23 arrested three more former certified nursing assistants from the Prairie View Residential Care Facility in Fayette, Iowa, for allegedly having sexual relationships with patients, according to a Des Moines Register report.

Earlier this month, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged two former CNAs from the facility — Paige Lynn Johanningmeier, 23, and Megan Marie Penney, 26 — for sexual exploitation by a counselor, therapist or school employee. Authorities said evidence showed Ms. Johanningmeier and Ms. Penney "had developed a relationship with … two patients and once they had left the facility [with the patients] it became sexual."

On March 26, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office revealed additional arrests in a Facebook post. Authorities said their investigation revealed former CNAs from the facility in Fayette were previously discharged for alleged "unhealthy relationships with patients." More specifically, authorities alleged Carolyn Marie Wiedrich, 44, Shelby Mariah Sebring, 24, and Jamie Leah Pagel, 32, all had sexual relationships with "court ordered" patients in 2015 or 2016 while employed by the Prairie View facility.

They were arrested March 23 and charged with sexual exploitation by counselor, therapist or school employee. The women could face five years in prison and have to register as a sex offender if convicted of the class D felony, according to local law enforcement.

The investigation into the alleged crimes is ongoing.
