The layoffs are part of a restructuring to allow the system to become more efficient, according to the report. United Regional identified opportunities to become more efficient in three specialties: respiratory care, central services and the laboratory.

Those three specialties have 164 employees, of which 14 were affected, a United Regional spokeswoman told the Times Record News. Affected employees could be considered for other positions within the system.
