4 Recent Hospital, Health System Layoffs

The following four hospital and health system layoffs and workforce reductions were covered by Becker's Hospital Review in the last three weeks. They are listed below by number of employees and/or positions affected.

1. Meadowlands Hospital to Cut 102 Jobs
Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center in Secaucus, N.J., plans to do away with 102 jobs due to financial difficulties and low patient volumes.

2. Eastern Niagara Hospital to Lay Off 60 in Restructuring Plan
Lockport, N.Y.-based Eastern Niagara Hospital is laying off 60 employees as it consolidates inpatient and surgical services from its Newfane, N.Y., location to its Lockport facility.

3. Ozarks Community Hospital to Lay Off 60; CEO Blames State's Medicaid Position
Ozarks Community Hospital in Springfield, Mo., plans to lay off up to 60 employees, or about 12 percent of its Springfield-area workforce. Ozarks Community Hospital's CEO Paul Taylor points to the state's decision to not expand Medicaid as the reason for the layoffs.

4. Washington Regional Medical Center Eliminates 27 Jobs
Fayetteville, Ark.-based Washington Regional Medical Center cut 27 positions due to effects of healthcare reform. About 15 to 20 current employees will be laid off as a result of the workforce reduction.
