Layoffs Possible at Mercy Hospital Cadillac

Facing the potential of a $2.5 million loss when its fiscal year ends June 30, Mercy Hospital Cadillac (Mich.) is considering layoffs, according to an Up North Live report.

This is the first time in the hospital's 14-year history it has reported a loss from operations. Several factors are contributing to Mercy Hospital Cadillac's losses, including reimbursement reductions and fewer inpatient admissions, according to the report.

As a result, hospital officials are considering a variety of cost-cutting measures, including layoffs and closing services. "We understand the impact that losing a job can have on our co-workers. The decision to lay anyone off will not be made without a tremendous amount of dialogue, brain-storming and discussion," officials wrote in a memo to employees, according to the report.
