The layoffs stem from the planned merger of Kimball Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., also part of Barnabas Health. The merger was announced earlier this year and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2014.
The New Jersey Nurses Union, Communication Workers of America Local 1091, which represents 274 nurses at Kimball Medical Center, is trying to stop the merger, according to the APP report.
