The hospital is losing $1.5 million every month it stays open, mostly due to the fact that Medicaid reimbursements have decreased in recent years and most of Brooklyn Interfaith’s patients are uninsured.
The hospital is currently $100 million in debt with no plans to accept internal restructuring plans proposed by hospital employees, according to the report.
Brooklyn Interfaith was supposed to close at the end of the summer, but a planned September bankruptcy hearing delayed the closure. However, that hearing has been delayed twice now, and bankruptcy courts have still not ruled on a closure date for the hospital.
