WHO asks Ukraine labs to destroy high-threat pathogens

The World Health Organization has "strongly recommended" that Ukraine's public health labs destroy high-threat pathogens in light of Russia's invasion, CNN reported March 11.

The war places Ukraine's labs at heightened risk of losing containment, the report said. WHO said it would assist the labs in pathogen disposal as needed and wherever possible.

"WHO routinely assists member states in improving their public health capacities, including by facilitating improved safety and security of laboratories holding samples of pathogens of public health concern," WHO spokesperson Tarik Jašarević told CNN in a March 11 email.
