The new recommendations were released in two lists, and are intended to increase conversations between patients and physicians concerning what care is necessary, according to a Nov. 7 news release.

The updated guidelines are also designed to lower waste by decreasing the frequency of unnecessarily administered tests and treatments.

The lists are part of ABIM Foundation’s “Choosing Wisely” campaign, and were made in collaboration with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and the American Society for Microbiology.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
