Chief Financial Officer, UCLA Hospital System

UCLA Health now seeks nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial Officer of the UCLA Hospital System.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the UCLA Health System, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the UCLA Hospital System is responsible for overseeing and leading the overall financial operations of the UCLA Hospital System, a $2.5 billion enterprise.  The UCLA Hospital System comprises the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA-Santa Monica Medical Center, the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Tiverton Guest Hotel.

 

The CFO provides input on policy and planning, budgetary control/financial planning, organizational planning and performance improvement, personnel management, information systems, capital planning/purchasing and staff support services.  The CFO is also responsible for ensuring proper internal controls and accounting practices for the external independent financial audit.  As a key senior manager, the CFO represents the hospitals on University and campus-wide committees, serves as an active representative in external agencies and network organizations and will periodically present financial information and updates to the UCLA Board of Advisors and Finance/Audit Committee.

The ideal candidate must possess a unique combination of skills and abilities to successfully manage a complex set of responsibilities in an academic health system setting, including:

  • In-depth knowledge of health care finance, including reimbursement, strategy, business planning, operations and financial conditions.
  • Experience in accounts receivable and revenue valuation.
  • Capacity for long range planning for all financial activities in a managed care environment that includes patient care, teaching, research and community service.
  • Familiarity with federal and state health services and related regulations, including Medicare, Medi-Cal and third party payers.
  • High standards of professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a wide range of management and medical staff.
  • Innovative thinking, the ability to problem solve and the capacity for making difficult decisions.
  • A deep commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required. Certified Public Accountant license and/or advanced degree preferred.
