From expanding its partnerships with more health systems, to investing in a plethora of healthcare startups, here are six recent healthcare moves from venture capital firm General Catalyst:
- General Catalyst partnered with its first health system outside the U.S., Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, the U.K.'s largest hospital system with 8 million patients. The two organizations will work together to create digital tools that address issues such as hospital capacity, wait times and staffing shortages.
- General Catalyst led a $168 million series B funding round for biotech company Odyssey Therapeutics.
- General Catalyst was named as one of the most active investors in health tech by commercial banking company Silicon Valley Bank.
- General Catalyst led a $90 million series E funding round for virtual care provider Maven Clinic. CVS Health Ventures and Intermountain Ventures, the venture capital arm of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare, also joined the funding round.
- General Catalyst added UC Davis Health to its growing list of healthcare system partners. As part of the partnership, the Sacramento, Calif.-based health system will use General Catalyst's ecosystem of companies to drive artificial intelligence and digital health innovations in healthcare delivery, research, education and public service, as well as the medical center's ongoing transformational efforts in operations, care and outcomes.
- General Catalyst has added nine more health systems to its "health assurance partners." These systems include Phoenix-based Banner Health; Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center; Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health; Rockledge, Fla.-based Health First; Cleveland-based MetroHealth; Columbus-based OhioHealth; Columbia, S.C.-based MUSC Health; Orange, Calif.-based UCI Health; and King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services.
