5 patients identified with C. auris at Kentucky hospital

An outbreak of colonized C. auris was confirmed at Lexington, Ky.-based Albert B. Chandler Hospital, NBC affiliate WLEX reported Oct. 24.

Hospital officials said five cases have been identified and patients are isolated on one floor.

"Currently, all cases have the fungus on their skin, but it is not causing an active infection and there are no active infections with Candida auris at UK HealthCare," hospital officials told WLEX. "Our team quickly identified the pathogen and began isolation and disinfection precautions to prevent further transmission."
