Computer-assisted coding apps slated for big growth as ICD-10 approaches, says HIMSS

The market for computer-assisted coding apps is poised to increase in the run-up to the Oct. 1, 2015 deadline to transition to ICD-10, according to HIMSS Analytics' Essentials of the U.S. Hospital IT Market report.

The report compares the current market penetration of 25 types of support apps with their projected sales volume among hospitals in the coming year. Computer-assisted coding apps were found to have the highest growth potential.

"In preparation for the shift to ICD-10, it is no surprise that the sales potential for coding solutions is high," said Lorren Pettit, vice president of market research for HIMSS Analytics. "The findings suggest that market opportunities are ripe for vendors with computer-assisted coding solutions."
