Thousands of Mercy Hospital workers to vote on possible strike

Workers at Catholic Health's Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., will vote this week on a possible strike, according to a Buffalo Business First report.

Eligible voters include 2,200 nurses, technologists, service and clerical workers represented by Communications Workers of America Local 1133.

The union said workers are "fed up" with what it claims is the hospital's refusal to embrace a normal labor/management relationship, refusal to provide adequate staffing to care for the patients and facilities and an ongoing pattern of concessionary contracts, according to the report.

Catholic Health officials told Buffalo Business First they would issue a statement later today.

The workers' previous contract expired in June.
