The new three-year agreement includes an assurance to keep enough nurses on duty and a requirement that managers give nurses eight hours to rest between shifts, according to the report.
It also puts all nurses onto the hospital pay grid, calls for an average pay increase of 12 percent and increases nurses’ retirement matching incentives, Marchelle Vernell Bettis, a registered nurse and a member of the bargaining unit, told St. Louis Public Radio.
The proposed contract covers about 660 nurses, represented by National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United, through 2018.
