The announcement comes amid negotiations between the New York State Nurses Association and the New York City Hospital Alliance, which represents Mount Sinai Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Mount Sinai West/St. Luke’s Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center.
Nurses planned a strike affecting about 10,000 workers for April 2. That strike is now postponed, pending further bargaining, the union said.
Officials with the New York State Nurses Association said progress has been made in negotiations, including “significant movement in safe staffing,” as well as in developing a fund to improve and enforce safe staffing grids by hiring more nurses.
The union plans to release more information when negotiations resume March 27.
A hospital alliance spokesperson confirmed the withdrawal of the strike notice and said the alliance will continue to negotiate in good faith.
