The nurses, who are members of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees, had tried to decertify their union. However, the attempt was rejected by the National Labor Relations Board due to not having enough signatures, according to the report.
Health Professionals and Allied Employees represents nearly 300 nurses at Southern Ocean. It is currently in contract negotiations with the hospital’s parent company, Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health. Staffing remains a key sticking point at the bargaining table.
On Sept. 27, nurses filed a petition asking the NLRB for a union decertification election, according to the report. But the labor board said the petition did not get signatures from at least 30 percent of members, as required.
Both sides are expected to resume negotiations Oct. 18.
