New York state hospital workers authorize possible strike

Unionized workers at Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital authorized a possible strike Wednesday, reports The Journal News.

The workers, which include technology workers, respiratory therapists and technicians, are represented by Communications Workers of America Local 1103 AFL-CIO. The strike authorization vote does not mean a walkout will take place. However, it does mean the union could call a strike if contract negotiations do not progress, according to the report.

The workers' contract concluded earlier this summer, and pay and healthcare costs have been among the key sticking points in reaching a new labor deal, Tom Grieco, the local's business agent told The Journal News.

A hospital spokesperson in a statement obtained by the publication said: "Nyack Hospital is bargaining in good faith and hopes to reach an agreement on a contract as soon as possible."
