Hospitals and unions: 6 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events after June 5.

1. Nurses at Children's Minnesota in St. Paul and Minneapolis reached a tentative contract with management, averting a strike.

2. Nurses at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak (Mich.) claim hospital administrators are participating in activities to prevent union organizing.

3. Nurses at New York City's public hospitals held a rally June 12 at city hall to call for adequate funding and safe staffing at facilities.

4. Mercy Health and the union representing nurses at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, reached a tentative agreement.

5. Four thousand mental health clinicians and healthcare professionals at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente facilities called off a strike scheduled to begin June 11, citing progress at the bargaining table.

6. Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital and its registered nurses resolved allegations related to unionization efforts.
