Hospitals add 4.5k jobs in September

The healthcare industry added 22,500 jobs in September, with hospitals contributing 4,500 to that total, according to Friday's job report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This is roughly in line with the industry's average monthly gain over the past 12 months, according to the BLS.

Ambulatory healthcare services showed the biggest employment growth in the industry last month, adding 24,700 jobs. The BLS said this gain was partially offset by the loss of 9,400 jobs in nursing care facilities.

Overall, U.S. employment declined by 33,000 in September, with Hurricanes Irma and Harvey likely playing a roll in the below-trend growth of food service and some other industries, according to the BLS.
