The vote would follow months of contentious contract negotiations between the union and Brigham, which is part of Boston-based Partners HealthCare. Sticking points of negotiations have included wages, scheduling and health benefits.
The union, which picketed May 17, said the hospital won’t pay fair raises but is trying to increase health insurance premiums and decrease time off for new nurses, according to the report. Hospital officials, however, argue they are proposing generous benefits and raises, The Boston Globe states.
“We have the utmost respect for our Brigham nurses and the unparalleled care they provide to our patients and their families,” Brigham spokeswoman Erin McDonough said, according to the report. “We are disappointed that the union has decided to call for a strike vote, but remain hopeful that the hospital and the union will reach a fair and reasonable contract.”
