Berkshire Medical Center nurses rally after strike

Nearly 100 nurses at Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Medical Center and their supporters rallied outside BMC's satellite campus in North Adams, Mass., over what they deem as unsafe staffing, according to iBerkshires.

The rally followed a 24-hour nurses strike by nearly 800 BMC nurses earlier this week. The strike ended Wednesday morning. However, hospital officials have said nurses won't be able to return to work for an additional four days because Berkshire Medical Center hired replacement workers for a minimum five-day contract.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association, which represents the nurses, has said via news release this prompted nurses and community supporters to schedule the rally in North Adams, as well as a rally outside BMC's main campus in Pittsfield.

The MNA-represented nurses are expected to return to work Sunday, according to the report. Meanwhile, BMC is operating as usual.
