Healthcare workers at Holy Family Hospital locations in Methuen and Haverhill, Mass., have voted to unionize.
The move covers more than 70 professionals — among them respiratory therapists, social workers, physical therapists and other healthcare staff, according to a news release from the Massachusetts Nurses Association. Union election results available from the National Labor Relations Board tallied 46 of the 74 eligible workers voting in favor of joining the MNA, while five voted against.
“We are united in our mission to provide exceptional care to our communities,” Dave Matthews, a Holy Family physical therapist and member of the organizing committee, said in the release. “Forming our union means we will finally have an equal seat at the table to make decisions that impact the quality of care we provide every day.”
Holy Family Hospital shared the following statement with Becker’s:
“We deeply value and appreciate our colleagues who engaged in this process and respect the outcome of this election. As we continue our journey to become a healthcare system providing care for everyone in our community, we are also committed to supporting each and every one of our employees.
“Specifically, we are committed to fostering a workplace where all employees feel supported and empowered to deliver exceptional clinical care and service excellence. This includes working in good faith with the MNA following these election results.”
The election follows Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital’s October 2024 acquisition of Holy Family Hospital locations from Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
