Here are four things to know about the project.
1. The project involves Brattleboro (Vt.) Retreat, a nonprofit mental health and addictions hospital, as well as BrattleboroMemorialHospital and Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, Vt. All three hospitals have staffing needs. For instance, Grace Cottage, the smallest hospital in the state, recently had 10 healthcare staff vacancies, and 13 nursing-related positions were recently listed on the BMH website, according to the report.
2. The project brings the three hospitals together with what is known as the Six College Collaborative comprised of Community College of Vermont in Montpelier, Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, Cincinnati-based Union Institute & University, which operates satellite campuses located in Vermont, Florida and California, Marlboro (Vt.) College, Landmark College in Putney, Vt., and World Learning’s School for International Training, with locations in Brattleboro and Washington, D.C.
3. The idea of the project, according to the report, is to connect current and prospective hospital employees with the necessary training. And if those educational opportunities are not currently available, college administrators plan to try to create them, the report notes.
4. The project will begin with an assessment of current healthcare-related courses available in the area, and a list of such offerings will be available here. Hospital human resources administrators will use that list as a reference and as a starting point for an educational wish list, according to the report.
